Is there a good standard practice for dealing with high volume items like books and cds? I’m trying to find a quick way around.

Counting the number of them and then applying an average per unit cost of that product. You need to be careful doing this as not to include items of higher value of the bulk items. Items of higher value should be itemized out separately and priced separately
Separate the items by Like Kind and Quality features and then do a count. This should allow your pricing team to apply more accurate averages.
Be aware of Law and Medical Text! These get real pricy.
